A check in Google this evening had this site ranked #2 in Google for the phrase “Chris Leone.” That’s an all-time high, breaking the previous record of position #3, but I won’t be satisfied until I reach my goal of being #1. There are several reasons I put so much value in ranking in Google, but one of the biggest is my belief in the practice of having a personal webpage and the importance of making it visible (specifically through search engines).

I monitor the rank of this page several times a day and I find it notable how much the rankings will jump over the course of one day. With a term as “static” as ‘Chris Leone,’ I can’t imagine the search engines crawl enough fresh information to adjust their rankings on a daily basis. This makes me more and more curious as to how the Google algorithm is structured. It would appear as though the rankings are adjusted on a slightly random basis, yet this never comes up in any SEO discussion I’ve ever encountered.

    Very interesting…
