A check in Google this evening had this site ranked #2 in Google for the phrase “Chris Leone.” That’s an all-time high, breaking the previous record of position #3, but I won’t be satisfied until I reach my goal of being #1. There are several reasons I put so much value in ranking in Google, but one of the biggest is my belief in the practice of having a personal webpage and the importance of making it visible (specifically through search engines).

    Chris Leone Google Rank 9-28-08

    Chris Leone Google Rank 9-28-08

I monitor the rank of this page several times a day and I find it notable how much the rankings will jump over the course of one day. With a term as “static” as ‘Chris Leone,’ I can’t imagine the search engines crawl enough fresh information to adjust their rankings on a daily basis. This makes me more and more curious as to how the Google algorithm is structured. It would appear as though the rankings are adjusted on a slightly random basis, yet this never comes up in any SEO discussion I’ve ever encountered.

    Very interesting…

The guys had their first show this weekend in VA Beach. It was a busy day that required a 5 am wake-up and got me home around 2:30 am. It was a beautiful day at the beach - once the torrential downpour let up.

I was proud of the guys for the show they put out, but more than anything it was a big reminder for all the work we still have to do. This was the first time I’ve heard a piece I helped write performed in a show. It was a rewarding feeling, but I’m more so looking forward to having it performed and played to the true abilities of the players.

Today I spent the morning cleaning, watching another heart break season come to a close by the Mets, and letting out some steam by going on a bike ride. The recent rainfalls made the trails particularly slick (as the bloody scrape on my arm with testify), but it was good to get out nonetheless.

I have a busy week ahead of me with work. I’m getting involved with some great opportunities working in the social media world and I couldn’t be more excited. This is a topic I have dedicated myself to learning and I’m ready to start putting my knowledge to work.

So with that I’m going to head to bed. Anxious to take on the challenges that lie ahead this week.

From Digg: “Best Buy didn’t want to honor the sale price of the 2GB flash drive Matt ordered through their website, so when Matt arrived to pick-up his purchase, the store’s assistant manager called customer service and, pretending to be Matt, asked to cancel the order.”

We’ve all had crummy customer service experiences. I’ve had my share at Best Buy alone. With a little initiative, our friend Matt is likely to come out on top. One of the things I love most about a web 2.0 world is how the little guy can take on the big guys with only his message and the power of an online community. Now, with an appearance on the front page of Digg, a spot in the Digg daily top 10, and a piece in the Consumerist, Best Buy has some damage control to do. It starts with giving Matt what he’s entitled to. Next, the management should be dealt with appropriately by Best Buy and pray further legal action isn’t sought by Matt - as one person commented “impersonating a customer to handle a financial transaction…is illegal.”

The big companies have to learn that they can’t get away with this anymore. Although I’m sure Best Buy didn’t condone the actions of the manager, they can’t get away with not taking full action.

While some may see this “power of the customer’s voice” as nothing but a nuisance, I see it as nothing but Win-Win. Through the spotlighted, everyday experiences of customers and employees, you more easily weed out the junk and improve the experience for both sides. Win-Win.
